The rainy skies did not dampen the mood at today’s groundbreaking at the site of the new Recreation and Wellness Centre located on Seymour Quarry Road, Campbellford where construction has started.
Lynn Phillips, CAO welcomed the guests saying “This is a celebratory day for everyone that has been involved in the planning and funding of this facility.”
Mayor Bob Crate added, “The Recreation and Wellness Centre is an important asset for our community. It will be a benefit for all citizens. It will also be a reason that new people decide to make Trent Hills their home. It will be why people move here and bring their professional skills that will be put to use in our business community and hospital.”
The facility will be operated jointly with YMCA Northumberland. Eunice Kirkpatrick, CEO of the YMCA, shared that this project has been a “dream come true for the organization, especially since it is an opportunity to serve the rural part of Northumberland County.”
The 21 million dollar project is being funded in part through the Federal and Provincial Investing in Canada Infrastructure Fund program and support from the community initiated by the Flourish campaign.
The facility is expected to be complete by the end of 2024
